Womens shapewear has seen many changes
through the centuries. One of the first historical examples of
women’s shapewear was the corset, a tight, restrictive undergarment
made with stiff fabrics, tight laces, and animal bones. The primary
purpose of the corset was to reduce the waist to tiny measurements,
often in the range of 16-20 inches. The corset was also used to
hold up the bustline before the invention of the brassiere.
Over time, womens shapewear evolved into girdles.
In the first half of the 1900’s, girdles were worn for figure
shaping and social modesty, as well as to hold up stockings. While
girdles helped women achieve support and shaping, girdles were
notorious for being hot, heavy, and painful to wear.
With today's technology you can select shapewear designs to fit your life style!
